Research - memory and mental image

Cognitive archaeology and future of the creation. What do we remember ? What makes the memory and how it does it builds itself ? What it is the part of culture, neurobiology?WE HAVE ANY 7 MILLION YEARS is an interdisciplinary project based on a sensitive and creative approach. Its postulate is that we have any 7 millions years of evolution, of repeated movements, of questionings, of cultures.
It involves various disciplines: Arts, Sciences and Pedagogy to approach at the same time the practice and the theory wondering about the origins of the creation from prehistory to contemporary. The project approaches the creation at the same time under a theoretical and a practical aspect, mixing arts and sciences and making bridges between prehistory and contemporary.
This search is rested by numerous museums and university partners worried of taking advantage of their human and documentary resources, their patrimonial resources and of places of exhibition in a spirit of collaboration.

Creation

Part of the Art pieces from the “We all have 7 million years” project result from the pedagogic actions, the other ones result from collaborations with scientists.

“A memory builds up itself gradually each time sensations impregnate us or just prevail in a given space. But memory is undulatory, elusive and can’t fit into any frame. It challenges time and space eroding linearity and circumferences, manhandling any idea of shape even if does not stop stammering images. Unfaithful of nature or, to quote the title of Jules Supervielle’s poem, “Forgetful memory” , memory is in all the fables, it creates myths. Difficult for an artist to seize the idea of memory except reducing it to an exploration of past. Caroline Bouissou plays on quite a different register. The memory is a process of knowledge and recognition which deforms at the same time as it proposes the hypothesis of a new figuration.”

Research team

WE ALL HAVE 7 MILLION YEARS is built from Arts/Sciences collaborations within different structures, from research and transdisciplinary exchanges, creation and pedagogical transmission on the subjects of “memory” and "mental image”.

Caroline Bouissou, artist and teacher in Fine Arts
She is the initiator and coordinator of this arts/sciences project that she develops with the support of Villa Arson and the association “WE ALL HAVE 7 MILLION YEARS”.
She has participated in numerous international exhibitions and recently joined the AOEE multidisciplinary research group of UCA (University Côte d'Azur) affirming her resolutely transversal commitment linking arts and sciences.

Martine Adrian-Scotto, physicist and lecturer at ICN
She works in the field of research about olfaction. Studying multimodal perception, associating music and smells. The transdisciplinarity arts, sciences is his area of research.

Gabriel Gandolfo, Teacher-researcher in neurosciences at UCA
Doctor in Behavioral Sciences since 1999 he carries out his research in a multidisciplinary framework, especially between Arts and sciences of the brain. He is the author and co-author of several publications in this theme.

Bertrand Roussel, Docteur in Prehistory and Nice's Archeology Museums Director
He is particularly interested in the links between science and Arts and the crossroads of disciplines. He is the author and co-author of many books on this subject.
Biography

Correlations between Arts and Sciences are completely integrated into Caroline Bouissou's practice. Creation and theoretical search are here inseparable. Her work is multidisciplinary, it questions memory, the birth of images and transmission. It's is under tightened by a practice of performance which expresses itself by a concern of experiment and the search for situations of experiment.
She studied at Villa Arson, Nice, France and at Listhaskoli, Reykjavik, Iceland, she obtained a diploma for art teaching in Brussels, Belgium that completed her creative approach with an educational culture.
Caroline Bouissou worked on educational projects of search in association with various Art Centers ( Villa Arson, Espace de l'Art Concret, Chapelle St Jacques ...) She participated in numerous exhibitions in France, Japan , Canada in United States and Europe. After years abroad she decided to come back to Nice where she integrated the group of search AOEE for the UCA (Côte d'Azur University) asserting her resolutely multidisciplinary commitment.

Mémoire, image mentale

Without being conscious of it, memory accompanies each of our gestures.
To ask itself the question of the mechanisms of memory allows to have a more vast vision of the creation and its division.
As underlines it the neuropsychologist F. Eustache the memory is turned to the future this is what allows us to cross 7 million years remaining focused to the contemporary.

How the technical evolutions propel us towards radical transformations of the world? What continuity in the creation, which upheavals? How our perceptive body evolves? What are our capacities to dread the new dimensions offered by the contemporary creation (digital, virtual, collective)? What do we remember ? How to approach the complexity of our memories - individual, collective and shared through the creation? How do we remember? What makes the memory and how does it builds itself ? What it is the part of culture, neurobiology or neuropsychologie?

L’ODEUR DE L’APPARITION

Multimodal experiences and olfactory installations about mental images and memory a collaboration with the Institute of Chemistry of Nice and the researcher, Martine Adrian Scotto.
